Presented like a live performance, "Normality" questions the notions of identity and individuality. In a sterile world, an androgynous character seeks freedom and interacts with symbolic elements whose interpretation is left to the spectator. The original soundtrack composed after the video emphasizes the dreamy trip of this escape.

"Normality" is the third chapter of a work started with "Fragments - Les bruissements du monde" and "Paragenèse".

Written, directed and filmed by Jean-Sébastien Monzani

Acting by Catherine Delmar

Music Composed and Produced by Angelo Vitaliano (original music created for this movie)

Less scary, still creepy in this one. I felt as if the woman was having an internal struggle between trying to be part of normality and at the same time fighting against it, at the end paying the price for that struggle with pain and beatings, from others and herself.
Loved the directing, filming and overall dark atmosphere though I felt that the music wasn't fitting for the movie, a little off, in my opinion, taking a chunk of the quality with it.

@03:28Less scary but still creepy this time, it felt both like a struggle to be a part of normality, but at the same time trying to fight it. The result, paying the price in pain, abuse from others and of yourself and loss of your original form, twisted and changed and no longer recognizable. Love the filming, atmosphere, directing, yet felt that the music was kind of off, harmed a bit of the quality, in my opinion.

Merci beaucoup :) Les bandes son sont toujours faites sur mesure et Angelo avec qui c'est ma première collaboration a vraiment créé quelque chose de très réussi que je n'aurai pas eu la patience de faire :)

@03:32Very nice work. I like how the movement is in harmony with the music theme! Why did you name it Normality though?
Great work with the ending titles as well. Keep it up!

@03:32Thank you! Angelo (music composer) has done a great work at syncing the music with her motion.
I can explain a little more about the title, but have you already read the description I wrote?

@04:38How is it that the light on the left isn't causing any lens flare?

@04:38OOPS ! I meant "it was NOT pointing in the same direction"
Reply
:iconjsmonzani:
jsmonzani Featured By Owner Sep 10, 2010  Professional Photographer
I guess it was exactly pointing in the same direction than the other light. Flare is very tedious and changes dramatically with slight alterations of the point of view. And it's difficult to achieve perfect symmetry as well :)

And I assume it also wouldn't be a problem since from what I've seen you use mostly prime lenses who have lesser elements and thus a lesser chance to encounter internal reflection and lens flare.

Yep. I only shoot with primes, actually.

What would you want to know about them? (I don't use Ls)

:iconcad-thelucas:

Well, why you don't use them for example. I can't say I've ever used one (even for tests, in a shop) but I've seen the end-results, and the image quality is quite impressive.

However I hear that zoom Ls tend to have a certain issue with a very delicate piece that is somehow responsible for some electronic contact or the other, and that is quite expensive to replace.

Well, L's are expensive and heavy/bulky, which are two points against them for me :)
