I was discussing with ~retrodiva88 who prints her book at blurb.com and since she told me that the quality was good, I think I'm going to make a test with them.

My previous book at monalbumphoto.com was a complete disaster but it should be much better this time ;)

So here is my page layout (160 pages and 193 photos woohoo!) I've got to say that I'm quite excited about it :excited:

I really hope that it will print good.

No public release is planned for the moment :)

I see you didnt bother with cropping the images inside the book, thats good, I will have to do the same I guess.

I usually print with borders even for me. This way, there's no fatal crop in the printer :)

This looks good. Are you going to put in a little "artists blurb" about your photo series? Good luck with the release of this. I am hoping the publishers don't mess it up.

Hello et merci.
Ne rêve pas, ce sont 160 pages et du sur-mesure, on va plutôt taper dans les 50$ :)

:excited: How cool!
I hope the quality will be fine! If it arrived would you please upload some good phtos of it so we can see how the quality is? I´m very interested in that.
Is it a print on demand thing?
Will it cost you something to sale them?
I looked at the page and they say you keep all the atist purchase, I guess they take their share from the production costs. Do you take the 20 x25 cm? :D
I probably can´t buy it, but I am sure it will sale good!

Thanks :)
Yes, it's print on demand.
When you sell them, you can of course add to the base price and make your own profit, but I don't think I'll make much money with it, actually :giggle:
I'll be using the 20x25 (actually 22x25, I think) version

Yeah it´s gonna be expensive even without your artists share :XD: I think it won´t be under 30 euro. I don´t know how much something like this costs in shops so I can´t say if it is a normal prize for a photo book =P
22 x 25 is a good size :D It´s nearly Din A4, that´s not too big and big enough to show the photos in a good size.

Yeah, the photos actually are 8 x 10" (18x24cm) which is good for a book.

The regular price is $40 without shipping :)

Right now, I'm very skeptical: I think that their software recompresses the images, therefore, that the quality won't match my expectations at all.
I've asked them what's going on but I think it won't work :(

This is too early to even really mention, but I think that if you do try to get a public release it would be cool to have pages in between the sets that talk about the photos, either by analysis by someone else or just your own description of what's going on or the motivation for each series. If for no other reason than to act as a division between sets. Either that or you'd probably have to make sure all the sets had a "title page."

Good luck with it :)

Thanks.
I don't think I'll have interesting things to write about the photos.
As for title pages, that's a good idea but this would mean less images too.

:iconmcismowski:

Oh, is there a page limit? I guess you could try incorporating the title into the photo itself to save space. I just think it could be confusing if the emphasis is on story telling because some people might think it's all one story line.

Yes, I see what you mean - that's why I might change my title, actually :-D

There isn't a page limit but all comes at a price. Going beyond 160 pages will make it quite expensive.

You tease us in the worst ways, JS! :shakefist:

:)

I hope that it does well for you, print-wise. Of course I'd be interested to get a copy for myself, but I hope that you feel free to talk more about the product you get back from them for a test book, too. I'm looking for a nice place to have some work printed up, and if blurb.com meets your standards then I'm sure it would meet my own, too.
